Chesapeake and Ohio Canal

Description

I decided to head to C&O Canal on a clouded, misty Tuesday morning right after the park opened to take photos of fungi with a macro lens. I recall seeing only two other cars parked at the time, it was very quiet. While I approached the start of the trail I heard a rustle in the forest line and a fox was standing no more than 8-ft from me. I stopped and froze but to my absolute surprise he slowly started to approach me, head lowered. I legitimately thought he might attack. However, the fox calmly approached and ended up being about a foots distance from me and simply quietly peered directly up at me for about ten seconds before turning around and darting back into the forest. It was honestly a magical, albeit, slightly alarming experience for me that I will never forget. It's eyes in photo strike me deeply, on some primal level - as silly as that may sound haha.
