Description

This photo captures the peak bloom wildflower meadows of Indian Henry's Hunting Ground. In the background, the 1915 NPS patrol cabin can be seen. In the distance, A clouded Mount Rainier looms over it all.

“Indian Henry” was a Native American born in 1825. Born with the name So-To-Lick, He was believed to be of Nisqually, Cowlitz or Klickitat origin. He led several climbing parties to Mount Rainier including Philemon Van Trump, James Longmire, Fay Fuller, George Bayley, and A.C. Ewing, and John Muir. One of his favorite spots, this area, is a beautiful alpine meadow, and one of the most popular hiking destinations in the park.
