Description

Xerophyllum tenax, or bear grass, grows up to five feet tall and blooms once every 5-7 years. The large blooms are composed of hundreds of individual flowers. They remind me of fluffy bear tails and are one of my favorite flowers. This photo was taken along the Granite Mountain trail. The bear grass was blooming almost the entire top half of the mountain and was eerie in the foggy clouds.
