Description

Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument has more than just fossils to peak the interest. Here you’ll find prehistoric plant and insect fossils as well several petrified redwood tree stumps. The petrified redwood tree stumps are evidence of a 35 million year old ancient forest. The impressive stumps can be viewed along the mile long Petrified Forest trail loop. I was the only visitor the morning of a spring snow, the untracked snow added a pristine backdrop to the ancient stumps.
