Description

This photo is of The Black Forest Lodge built by Carl Schenck, German founder of the first Forestry school in America who was hired by George Vanderbilt. The Lodge was used to provide housing for the rangers who provided protection for Vanderbilt's Pisgah Forest from trespassers, illegal logging, poachers and fire prevention. This Lodge is located at the Cradle of Forestry in America.
