Description

The history behind this park where 23,000 soldiers from both the Union and Confederate Armies lost their lives in a single day of battle truly makes one sit back and think about the horrors of battles fought in a time where little medicine was available to help save the lives of those injured. While driving through the park, we saw many cannons like these, where men simply headed directly towards their enemy, while the cannons fired non-stop at them. Nothing but air between them and certain death. One can only hope that nothing like this ever happens again - brother against brother, family against family, States against States. There are no real winners in a Civil War, only death and despair.
