Description

This ancient lacework is a small section of Waffle Rock on display at the visitor center. Its formation is surrounded by mystery with many theories of origin such as huge lizards, native American artwork, and aliens. The more mundane, but most believed, origin is that it is a geological formation that began 250-300 million years fractured and was filled in by iron oxide throughout the passage of time. The iron oxide was the only thing that remained after the sandstone eroded, leaving this unusual pattern. I, personally, would like to image a huge prehistoric lizard weaving this wonderful pattern.
