Description

Though I would have loved to have seen (and photograph) the currently ongoing Kīlauea eruption, we missed it by one week. We arrived at the Kīlauea Caldera at sunset on September 22 only to have our night sky view quickly obstructed by total cloud cover. Disappointed, we made our way back to the car. After a few minutes, we decided to get out and check the view one last time, only to discover all the clouds over the caldera had suddenly parted to show us this magnificent view of the Milky Way over the Halema'uma'u Crater.
