At heart, we are all explorers. High school students backpacking for the first time in Emigrant Wilderness, CA. This summer, I volunteered as a trip leader for Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit focused on providing access to the outdoors for youths from communities that lack access to nature. Throughout the trip, I helped these students, most of whom had never camped before, gain confidence in their skills backpacking. Watching them thrive reminded me that, at heart, we are all explorers.
