Description

Hermits Rest is at the end of West Rim Drive on Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim. The historic building here was designed by architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter and designed as a rest area. This is also the trailhead for the unmaintained Hermit Trail to the Colorado River. The West Rim Drive is only open to private vehicles Dec/Jan/ Feb; the other 9 months visitors must use the shuttle buses to get here, and to access the several other viewpoints along the route from the main south rim area.
