Description

A stranger and neighbor #2. I never get tired of watching Yellowstone's full suite of wildlife. In a wonderland of natural splendor, for me, the wildlife is the park's chief attractant. Wolves are the most high profile and most controversial occupant. It was easy to imagine that this female knew she was an ambassador of her species when we crossed paths.

One stormy June day, she appeared out of the blue, stopped by the Hayden River for a drink, then came straight toward my car. For a few seconds, we made eye contact (just my family and her). She changed our lives that day. There is much we still don't know about her and her kin, but we're convinced we (humans) and wildlife can learn to share our planet including with wolves.
