On a frigid morning in December I found three bull moose feeding on sedge in a wide field. I hiked out towards where the moose were feeding and watched them graze from a safe distance. The moose quickly got distracted and began to spar with one another. As they were sparring, a cow moose began to call from 50 yards behind me. All three of the moose quickly lifted their heads up and looked her way. It was perfect timing as the sun had just begun to rise on the mountains behind them, illuminating the peaks with an orange glow.
