Description

This reservoir is the 2nd largest body of water in Colorado and was created by the damming of the Dolores River. The reservoir is named for McPhee, Colorado, a company town founded by the New Mexico Lumber Company, that is now submerged under the reservoir. In 1927, the McPhee sawmill produced over half of Colorado's lumber. The recent drought in the southwest has lowered the depth of the waters and increased the chance of exposing some of the flooded town.
