Description

This is the Frozen waterfalls inside the little cave of Apostle Island National Lakeshore at the northern edge of Bayfield County, Meyers Beach, in Wisconsin, USA. Let me walk you through the story of a woman who was born in a tropical country Philippines.

Never in my life to experience the bone chilling sub zero temperature. Me and my husband arrived early on March 5, 2015 at the parking area just to see the stunning ice caves sit 18 miles west of Bayfrield. Then we bought our ticket. Seems to me we were the first one. The sea caves and rock formations are reachable by crossing the Great Lake about a mile on a foot. So we started dragging our camera and tripods. At the middle of our hike I already felt the bone chilling temperature around negative 20 degrees F plus wind chill right around negative 25 degree F so it was really way below temperature and I asked my husband to not continue our hike and just go home. He said straight to my face, “You can do it!” So we continue our way. Then we found what we are looking for the “fairyland of needle-like-icicles.” All being curved by wind and the sub zero temperature so to speak, nature really did it! It was really the most unique, breathtaking, and peculiar rock formations, icicles and ice caves. So, I got excited I grabbed my camera and started to capture the magnificent beauty. And because I am small and slim, I crawled up inside the tiny little holes in different area of the ice caves. There I saw different perpectives, certainly unusual from the rest of the visitors. I brought with me my canon fisheye lens mounted into my canon camera and continue my merry way to freez the spectacular beauty down under the ice caves. Then I saw this frozen waterfall, I certainly look for hole to crawl up and capture the back side not exposed by the rest of the visitors. This is the bluish, back side of the frozen waterfall. Then I decided to got out from down under and I saw the eyes of my husband were full of little icicles already…I said to him, “Look at you, your eyes are frozen!” Then we decided to walk back again to the parking area for the cars so we can go home. That was so fun for me, I thought I cannot survive but I did surive! Now, I can tell that was the very memorable and unusual experience I ever had in my life.
