Description

The Hornbek Homestead
Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument has more than just fossils to peak the interest. Here you’ll find prehistoric plant and insect fossils as well several petrified redwood tree stumps. The Hornbek Homestead, built in 1878, is a section of the monument that tells a story of early Western settlers. On a snowy morning I was in route to photograph the petrified redwood stumps but stopped to capture the untracked snow that added a layer of silence to the homestead.
