Joshua Tree National Park

Joshua Tree National Park
Uploaded by Thomas Ochs on 11 May 2017 in Oakton

I stumbled upon this scene on my recent trip to Joshua Tree National Park. While at first the desert seems a grey and lifeless void, a closer look reveals unique, stunning beauty. Southern California’s recent rains had taken a dry, hard place – the desert - and filled it with vibrant, delicate wildflowers, like this Desert Mariposa Lily. A few weeks after my trip, I noticed a caterpillar on the leaves in the top right of this photograph!
